Addenda and Corrigenda to Aksumite Coinage
Below are listed addenda and corrigenda to the Type Descriptions and Plates in Munro-Hay S.C. and Juel-Jensen B.,
Aksumite Coinage, Spink, 1995 (henceforth AC). Those already published in the Errata in Spink Numismatic Circular,
March 1996, Vol. CIV/2, p.43 are asterisked.
Sometimes AC assigns separate type numbers to what are only die varieties of the same type; to continue
this approach would be impracticable and in such cases a range of type numbers may be given. Additional examples of
existing types will only be listed if the type is very rare.
Pre-Christian Period (Endubis to Ezanas)

Type 4 (Aphilas AV): *Delete A.9, which is the same coin as Type 4ii A.5 (see AC p. 10).
Add CNG 21 Dec 2005 /415, 2.65g, doubly pierced and presumably from India, now in a private collection in the USA.

Type 7 (Aphilas AV): Add another from Aksum 2009, also 0.66g. and from the same dies,
in a European private collection.

Type 8 (Aphilas AV): Under Obv., delete "(missing on A.4)" (see A.III 3/1).
On Plates, replace references "AIII 3/1" to "AIII 3/3" by "AIII 3/2" to "AIII 3/4".

Type 12 (Aphilas AE): Add another from Aksum, 3.88g, doubly pierced, from a different obv. die,
in a European private collection.

Type 15 (Wazeba AV): Add another, 1.81g, from different dies with different arrangements of the legends,
CNG Triton sale 4-5 January 2011 /1190.

Type 16 (Wazeba AR): Add: one from Addis Ababa (Hahn 1998ii), 1.28g., now in the author's collection;
one from different dies in an English private collection.

Types 17-18 (Wazeba AR): On some specimens, the obv. or rev. Ge'ez N is vocalised, e.g. Spink 30 Mar 2006 /1077
for obv. and /1078 for rev.

Type 19 (Wazeba/Ousanas AR): On the Anzani specimen, the obv. Ge'ez N is vocalised.

Types 20-4 (Ousanas AV): Though AC lists only six specimens, West 2006 was able to count 38 (31 doubly pierced),
mainly recent finds from India - four more (one doubly pierced) can now be added. The Mangalore hoard
(Hahn 1998, 2000iv) contained 18 of these. All seven examples with a star-like symbol on the rev. (type 22) are from the
same dies. West 2006 also noted three contemporary imitations (two doubly pierced and
one unpierced rev. brockage) - a fourth can now be added: Baldwin 2 May 2006 /341 2.84g (doubly pierced).

Type 26 (Ousanas AR): *In Comments on the Plates, replace "Type 25" by "Type 26".

Type 27 (Ousanas AR): Add: Baldwin New York 10-11 Jan 07 /494, 1.87g, now in a private collection in the USA;
Seaby June 1981 /D15.

Type 28 (Ousanas AR): *In Comments on the Plates, replace "Type 26" by "Type 28".

Type 29 (Ousanas AE): Add another in the author's collection, 1.03g.

Type 33 (Ousanas AR): In Comments on the Plates, replace "Type 32" by "Type 33" and *add JJ 118 to list in following sentence.

Type 38 (Ezanas AV): Delete - as noted, this type is a modern forgery.

Type 44 (Ezanas AE): *On Plates replace type 45 by 44 (three times).

Types 45-45i (Anonymous AV and AR): Delete - as noted, these types are forgeries.

Type 46 (Anonymous AR): Add: one from Aksum excavations 2001; one in a European private collection.
